I hired Happy Place Interiors for a 90-minute Ideas & Inspiration consultation to get feedback on updating my kitchen, living room, and dining room. I was looking for a designer who could help me create a vision—something that I could plan and implement on my own. I knew I needed new flooring but really wanted feedback since it’s a significant investment. While I’ve updated my home over the years, some features still felt dated to the 90s (my home was built in 1993), and the overall feel lacked cohesion.
Melanie provided practical advice and suggested a variety of improvements. I especially appreciated that her recommendations didn’t require major renovations or a large budget. Instead, she validated my flooring choice and then provided recommendations on wall and trim colors, furniture placement, rug selections and lighting to tie everything together. How much does a 90-minute interior design consultation cost?
Our Ideas & Inspiration Design Session is $349 for up to 90 minutes, with your designer coming to your home in the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro (virtual sessions are also available). This covers everything from furniture layout to paint color to styling advice — see the full list of what's included above.

What's the difference between this session and the Deep Dive session?
This 90-minute session is ideal for a single room or a very high level of several rooms — think furniture layout, paint color, or getting unstuck. Our Deep Dive Session runs up to 3 hours and is better suited to multiple rooms, a whole-home plan or going into more detailed recommendations, since it gives us more time to go deeper on layout, color, and shopping together.

Is this in home or virtual?
Most sessions happen in-home so your designer can see your space, lighting, and existing furniture firsthand — this tends to give the most accurate recommendations. Virtual consultations are available if that works better for your schedule or location; just let us know when you book.

Which designer will I work with?
You'll be matched with one of our talented designers — Melanie Zaelich, Deb Garvin, or Melanie Lindahl — based on availability and your project needs. All of our designers follow the same collaborative HAPPY Method™ approach.

What should I prepare before my designer arrives?
Before your session, you'll fill out a short Personal Design Profile and send photos of your space, along with any images that inspire you. This lets your designer review your home in advance so your time together is focused and productive from the first minute.

In what form do I receive recommendations?
Guidance during your session is delivered verbally and in real time, so we recommend recording the session and taking your own notes. If you'd like a written summary to reference later, that's available for an additional fee — just ask.

We serve Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the surrounding Twin Cities metro, plus nationwide for virtual sessions.
